MTA in overseas promotion for rockclimbing the Maltese Islands
Officials from the Malta Tourism Authority‘s Sports Tourism section were recently in the west coast of Sicily to participate along with the Malta Climbing Club in the 4th Edition of the San Vito Lo Capo Rock Climbing Festival, held between 10 and 14 October.
The several excellent climbing sites in Malta and Gozo were extensively promoted throughout the festival, among the many local and international climbing enthusiasts attending the event.
During the Rock Climbing Festival the MTA also launched a new and dynamic promotional feature on rock-climbing in the Maltese Islands. The video, which was very well received, is the first one of its kind to be produced in relation to the rock-climbing product offer of Malta and Gozo: A sport and activity that is growing extensively in popularity, especially in Central and Western Europe.
The production, commissioned by the MTA and produced with the collaboration of the local climbing associations, the Malta Rock Climbing Club (MRCC), the Malta Climbing Club and the Gozo Climbing Association, shall be used extensively over the coming weeks and months to promote rock-climbing in Malta internationally, especially through social networking sites.
Since 2005, the Malta Tourism Authority has embarked upon a number of joint initiatives, together with the relevant climbing associations, with regards to both the enhancement of the product as well as the overseas promotion of rock climbing in Malta and Gozo. One such initiative has been the bolting project, in association with the MRCC, which so far has created over 400 new climbs in 25 sites around the Maltese Islands.
