Government sources urgent Buspirone stocks
The government announced yesterday that it has managed to source a supply of the out-ofstock, anti-anxiety medicine Buspirone.
The issue was raised by our daily sister newspaper earlier this week.
Buspirone is an anti-anxiety medicine that corrects anxiety-inducing chemical imbalances in the brain. Fear, tension, irritability, dizziness, an accelerated heart rate and other physical symptoms may be controlled through the ingestion of Buspirone.
Sufferers who spoke to this newspaper said that despite the fact that they do not qualify for the means test for free treatment and must therefore pay a high premium for their medication, they were unable to treat their condition due to the unavailability of Buspirone.
This medicine is now available at Mater Dei Hospital and will be made available at pharmacies around Malta and Gozo in the coming days, through the Pharmacies of Your Choice (POYC) scheme.
Buspirone is a generic drug that controls severe anxiety and panic attacks and its unavailability must certainly have caused distress to the many individuals who experience such attacks and for whom the drug is known to provide immediate relief.
