The Ballet Summer Intensive 2014
● With Royal Ballet artist Tierney Heap and English National Ballet soloist Lauretta Summerscales
This year’s Ballet Summer Intensive will feature instruction by Royal Ballet artist Tierney Heap and English National Ballet Soloist Lauretta Summerscales. The first part of the intensive course will run from 21 July to 1 August and is aimed at ballet pupils aged 11 to 15. The second is for dancers aged 16 and over and will run from 4 to 15 August.
During the intensive, Tierney Heap will speak to dancers about auditioning techniques, healthy
eating, injuries, grooming and other relevant topics. She will share experiences about vocational training and the life of a professional dancer with The Royal Ballet.
It will be a a unique opportunity for dedicated talented dancers in Malta to learn, dance
and perform with the Royal Ballet Artist.
Aged 11 she won a scholarship to study at Elmhurst School for Dance and aged 15 joined The Royal Ballet Upper School. Awards while at the Royal Ballet School include bronze medal at the 2010 Genée International Ballet Competition. Tierney has also participated in Young British Dancer of the Year competition, dancing Gamzatti from La Bayadere and Paquita and Summer Fairy from Cinderella.
Tierney was just 18 when she landed a contract with The Royal Ballet and was one of just two students to land a contact in their final year of study.
At just 20 Tierney debuted a lead role, the Queen of the Lilies, in Giselle at London’s Royal Opera House. Heap’s repertory with the Company includes Myrtha (Giselle, Swan Lake , Don Quixote, Mayerling and La Bayadere.)
She will be a guest of Sandrina Spiteri Gonzi, also a classical dancer.
Dancers will also have the opportunity to meet with Laurretta Summerscales at The School of Performing Arts, University of Malta. Dancers are invited to take a class taught by Laurretta Summerscales or to attend one of the lectures on life as a professional artist with English National Ballet.
Laurretta and Sandrina both trained at The English National Ballet School in London and have been friends since a young age.
