Commemorat­ing Malta’s accession to the EU

To commemorat­e the 10th anniversar­y of Malta’s accession to the European Union, Horizons published a new book as part of the celebratio­ns of this important political and social history of Malta. The novel, entitled Dijaspori was written by Salv Sammut, author of other social novels as well as a number of poetry books.

The novel portrays the conflict which arises between a young teenage girl and her father due to their different opinions about the accession of their country into the European Union. The story of a Slovak poet in the years before and after the Russian invasion into what was known as the former Yugoslavia. The third protagonis­t is a senior official in a prominent Maltese Trade Union who is battling his internal diaspora and his loyalty towards his position in life and his internal beliefs.

Throughout the novel, the reader will relive the moments, the emotions and the social atmosphere of life in Malta 10 years ago where two strong highly opposing currents, worked very hard and used all their energy to explain to the Maltese people all they believed in with strong conviction.
