Top appointment for Maltese professor
Professor Christopher Bezzina was recently nominated and appointed Vice President of the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management.
As VP he will be taking a leading role in the way the CCEAM operates over the next four years.
He has been serving as an Executive Board Member since 2010. Amongst other things, the CCEAM aims to foster links and exchanges among individuals and associations concerned with the improvement of educational leadership; encourage the development of national associations; support regional and international conferences; facilitate and disseminate knowledge about research and practice in the field and encourage high standards in the study, practice and preparation of educational leaders. In this regard a project currently underway is the piloting of the Commonwealth School Leadership Capabilities Framework which saw CCEAM being commissioned by the Commonwealth Secretariat to respond to the 17th Commonwealth Conference of Education Ministers 2009 communiqué which had identified the need to continue working on the identification and training of school leaders, based on their demonstrated leadership abilities.
Professor Bezzina, who currently holds the position of asso- ciate professor of educational leadership at the University of Malta, said that he was humbled and honoured with this nomination and has accepted to serve in this capacity for the enhancement of the knowledge, skills, and aptitudes of educational leaders so that they can leave an impact where it matters. Professor Bezzina stated that this is an exciting and engaging time for CCEAM as it tries to open more affiliates in the Commonwealth, enhance membership and engage in research and projects that leave an impact on learning. The Council will also be exploring different possibilities to get closer to those communities that need it most.
