Part I (Deputies)
On 11 June, Malta’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the European Union, Neil Kerr, participated in the 2501st meeting of the Permanent Representatives Committee Part I ( Deputies), also known as COREPER I.
In addition to approving ‘ I’ items, which are mostly issues that were agreed to at the Council’s technical Working Party level, the meeting discussed the following:
- Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Regulations ( EC) No 850/ 98, ( EC) No 2187/ 2005, ( EC) No 1967/ 2006, ( EC) No 1098/ 2007, ( EC) No 254/2002, (EC) No 2347/2002 and (EC) No 1224/2009 and repealing (EC) No 1434/98 as regards the landing obligation
- Preparation for the Council meeting (Agriculture and Fisheries) on 16 and 17 June
1. Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Regulations ( EC) No 850/ 98, ( EC) No 2187/ 2005, ( EC) No 1967/ 2006, ( EC) No 1098/ 2007, ( EC) No

2. Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on a European Network of Employment Services, workers' access to mobility services and the further integration of labour markets (EURES)
3. Proposal for a Council Directive on implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation
4. Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on improv- ing the gender balance among non-executive directors of companies listed on stock exchanges and related measures

a) Social dimension of the Europe 2020 Strategy
b) Ex-ante coordination of major social policy reforms
c) Minimum income schemes in the Euro area
d) Adequate social protection for long-term care needs in an ageing society

Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on medical devices, and amending Directive 2001/83/EC, Regulation ( EC) No 178/ 2002 and Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 and Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council onin vitrodiagnostic medical devices

Part II
On 11 June, Malta’s Perma- nent Representative to the European Union, Ambassador Marlene Bonnici, participated in the 2501st meeting of the Permanent Representatives Committee Part II, also known as COREPER II.
In addition to approving ‘ I’ items which are mostly issues that were agreed to at the Council’s technical Working Party level the meeting discussed the following:
- Follow-up to the Council meeting (Justice and Home Affairs) on 5/6 June
- Preparation of the Council meeting ( Economic and Financial Affairs) on 20 June
- Debriefing of the G7 Summit (4-5 June) - Relations with Ukraine a) Draft Council Decision on signing, on behalf of the European Union, and provisional application of the Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their member states, of the one part, and Ukraine, of the other part, as regards Titles III, IV, V, VI and VII of the Agreement, as well as the related Annexes and Protocols
b) Draft Final Act between the European Union and its member states, of the one part, and Ukraine, of the other part, as regards the Association Agreement
- Preparation of the Council meeting (General Affairs) on 24 June
a) Preparation of the European Council on 26-27 June
b) Other items in connection with the Council meeting
Note: COREPER meetings are held every week and are part of the Council’s legislative process. The items which are discussed follow technical
work carried out on the respective files at the Coun
cil’s Working Party level. Working Parties are attended by technical officials from the Permanent Representation of Malta to the EU or from the
Ministries concerned. The issues discussed in COREPER
are subsequently discussed and/or approved by ministers from member states at Coun
cil ministerial meetings. There are two COREPER
formations (I and II); COREPER II is attended by the Permanent Representative and covers issues which fall under the following Council formations: General Affairs;
Foreign Affairs; Justice & Home Affairs; and Economic
& Financial Affairs.
