Babel Film Festival at Splash & Fun next Friday

-

Babel is defined as a city where the building of a tower is halted by the confusion of tongues. A complex and fascinating subject that of a thousand voices that revolve around the Tower of Babel, which since the days of the Bible has forever inspired intellectuals and artists. This short film festival brings together stories spoken in mother languages giving an authentic taste of an undiscovered World.

All the way from Cagliari the Babel short film festival – Malta Edition devoted to all the films that are written and spoken in a minority language, a dialect, slang or a sign language. All films are subtitled so one can not only hear different sounds used in languages to communicate but also understand the dialogues. This short film festival promises to be a journey across undiscovered cultures.

The programme includes films from Italy, Turkey, Congo, Norway, Spain, the UK, Mali, the USA, Sweden, Canada and many more. The films’ resonant theme is dialogue, a fundamental tool for the development of relations between people, countries and cultures. The theme is so current that the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, has sent a congratulatory message to the festival organisers, the event offering the European institution patronage. Antonello Zanda, artistic director of the festival said: “The hallmark of the Babel short film festival is that the languages are different, but you can still talk to each other“.

The Babel short film festival allows you to have a drink at a seaside venue as a diverse programme of short films unfolds in front of you instead of being shut in a stuffy cinema in the midst of summer. During the film event, the audience will be given the opportunity to vote for the best film.
