Spero, the training and activity centre for the blind, celebrates its second anniversary
On 6 July, Spero, located in Qormi, celebrated its second anniversary since its inception. Spero is a specialised Training and Activity centre for blind and visually impaired persons, provided in partnership with Agenzija Sapport. The aim of the activities and specialised training is to give the blind various training opportunities in relation to technology and to help them live a fuller, more independent life. An informal, yet crucial aim of the Centre is to provide a familiar environment to those who attend and help them lead a less solitary life. This aim is reached through discussions and outings, coupled by continuous en-courangement and support, which is provided by facilitators.
The President Marie Louise Coleira Preco visited the Centre during an activity held by all those who make use of the service. Following a feature which saw the participation of the blind persons together with the facilitators and management, the President expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the work which is carried out in silence and expressed hope that this work will continue to flourish through more opportunities at the Centre.
During her visit, Her Excellency touched the hearts of all present when she took the time to listen to each and every service user while sharing a few anecdotes with them. The President’s charismatic persona was appreciated by all present, who later continued to celebrate this anniversary through a commemoration party.
