Gozitan conductor at Taormina Opera Festival
Conductor Colin Attard recently directed a concert at the very suggestive Teatro Antico of Taormina. The concert, which formed part of the Taormina Opera Festival produced by the Associazione Festival Euro Mediterraneo and artistically directed by Enrico Castiglione, was prominently featured on Sicilian media. Mro Attard was at the helm of the festival’s Chamber Orchestra in a concert which opened with Mozart’s serenade Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. The concert’s main excerpt was Vivaldi’s Le Quattro Stagioni featuring renowned Sicilian violinist Massimo Barrale, the leader of the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana. Mro Attard also made it a point to include a Maltese excerpt in the programme presenting Joseph Vella’s Sarabanda for Strings. The concert was a result of the ongoing collaboration between Gaulitana: A Festival of Music, of which Mro Attard is the artistic director, and the Associazione Festival Euro Mediterraneo. The two organisations’ previous collaboration was the production of the opera Il Barbiere di Siviglia, produced in Gozo last April as part of the 10th edition of Gaulitana. Indeed, officials from the festival accompanied the maestro and were involved in a series of fes- tival-related meetings. The Gozitan delegation was also invited to attend the production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, the key event of the Taormina Opera Festival.
