Malta’s Best Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2016 – a huge success

-

Nathan Archer The fifth edition of Malta’s Best Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2016 has come and gone. Maybe the lucky guests were being polite but going by my informal survey, Malta’s Best Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2016 was a high-quality, business event full of nonstop entertainment, drama, colour and action that ended with a spectacular 10-minute fireworks display. (The afterparty celebrations were not bad either). By all accounts, it was a great night out. All those present enjoyed it from start to finish.

A lot of hard work went into the planning, organization and making Malta’s Best Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2016 run so smoothly.

The organising committee – Chev. Maurice Mizzi, David J Dingli, Keith Mallia Milanes, Deborah Schembri and organizer Martin Vella – reviewed a mountain of submissions and helped run the judging criteria and voting tracks on the night.

The hosts, Thea Saliba and Colin Fitz, did an excellent job with the announcements and managing the stage. They made Malta’s Best Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2016 look wellrun, and professional.

Malta’s Best Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2016 Sponsors, particularly Continental Cars Ltd and Mapfre Middlesea plc, without whose support both in sponsoring the event itself and also through the ongoing contributions to the Porsche on Tack 2016 project, the event could not have been such a success.

We spoke with the tireless organiser Martin Vella, who told us, “A big thank you to all the nominees! There are too many of them to name individually, but were it not for them, such an incredible and fantastic event would not have been possible.”

“Special thanks go to Margaret Brincat, who worked hard for the completion of the sales end of this award programme. This event was a resounding success, and we couldn’t have done it without her!”

MBR Publication Limited is proud to continue the tradition established by the awards that define and celebrate vision, the spirit of achievement and excellence in business leadership in Malta. Malta’s Best Entrepreneur of the Year Awards™ distinguish and honour leaders who have contributed and shaped the Maltese economy, and are visionaries behind today’s outstanding businesses.

“Winners of the awards exemplify the best in Maltese leadership. They epitomize the core values of a successful leader, strength, innovation, ingenuity, knowledge and foresight – values that are imperative to carving out powerful business in a Maltese, as well as EU/Global economy,” Mr Vella explained .

Martin Vella, who pioneered the annual Awards and is also MBR Publications Limited’s Managing Director, told us, “We have put in a great amount of planning, effort and minute organisational details, which are evident as you may see all around you. We have built our reputation by giving our customers more than they expect to get, and this is by far Malta’s largest locally organised gala award ceremony, with the greatest entertainment value you can imagine!”

Mr Vella struck partnership deals with various sponsors, including Continental Cars Limited, agents for the famous car brand Porsche, who sponsored a grand prize ‘Porsche On Track 2016’ worth Euro 3,000.00. Mr Sandro Cauchi, General Manager for Continental Cars Ltd handed the winning voucher to the lucky winner David Seisun of Sixteen Limited, during the all entertaining gala dinner awards.

Mizzi Group Chairman Chev. Maurice Mizzi attended the awards and inspired by the recognition of Maltese business leadership, saluted outstanding business leaders for their continuing commitment to excellence in Malta. In 2016 the awards grew into 26 business segments, or categories, – with a grand finale held at the Laguna Walk, SmartCity Malta, to bring all nominees together and to celebrate an overall victor. The awards ceremony and gala dinner is presented in a onehour show broadcast on Super One TV.

Celebrating its fifth year, the awards have become synonymous with recognising the best in business leadership in Malta and continue to grow in boldness and stature. This year the organisers planned an ambitious non-stop show and awards ceremony, which was extremely well received by over 500 guests. The entertainment included two stage set up against spectacular jumping water with special lights effects acting as backdrop, lasers, a six piece band with singer, fire eaters and fire jugglers from Fireplay Malta, a 15 piece dance group with two extravagant performances conducted by Kinetic Dance Studio, special show by the amazing T8 Robot, award winning ballet dancers from Russia, Natalia Makina and Ivan Poroshin, Latina Duo from Ukraine and Italy, Anna Kalinichenko and Francesco Mascorelli, followed by the awards and ending with a spectacular ten-minute fireworks display.

This event was also sponsored by Samsonite. Conrad Busuttil, Managing Director of VF Group, agents for Samsonite, presented the overall winner with a Samsonite travelling suitcase worth over €700.

Malta’s Overall Winner Best Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 was won by John Schembri from Shield Consultants Ltd, who also carried away the Best CSR Entrepreneur Award and the Best Male Entrepreneur Award. The Special Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to none other than Lateral Thinking inventor, thinker, philosopher and teacher Professor Edward de Bono. The Chairman’s Value Award was awarded to Roland Cachia of emCARE, while the Best Entrepreneur Award for Excellence was presented to Dr Jonathan De Giovanni from WDM International Ltd.

Mr Vella explained that the programme’s top event is the spectacular celebration of entrepreneurship in Malta. The Maltese winners and overall Entrepreneur Of The Year 2016 Malta are announced during this event. “This evening is a great opportunity for all finalists to celebrate with fellow finalists, key business influencers and the Entrepreneur Of The Year nominee community.”

“We now close a chapter and open another,” Mr Vella said, “as we start our work for Malta’s Best in Business Awards, which shall be twice as large as tonight’s show. Therefore, a lot of work needs to be done till the end of the October. As soon as we finish one event, it signals the start of another!” the intrepid MICE organiser said.
