Britain’s Peaty sets new world record in 100m breaststroke
Adam Peaty of Britain lowered his world record in the 100metre breaststroke preliminaries at the Rio Olympics.
He qualified first in 57.55 seconds yesterday, lowering his old mark of 57.92 set in London on April 17, 2015.
Peaty and 15 other swimmers moved on to the evening semifinals.
But defending Olympic champion Ye Shiwen of China has failed to qualify for the final of the women’s 400-metre individual medley.
Ye finished 27th among 33 swimmers in yesterday's preliminaries with a time of 4 minutes, 45.86 seconds.
She nearly lost her world record, too.
