Russia comes from behind to win team foil event
Russia has defeated France 4541 to win the gold medal in the men's team foil competition.
The last time Russia won gold in the event was back at the 1996 Games. France led the match for seven consecutive periods before Russia's Artur Akhumatkhuzin outscored Jean-Paul Tony Helissey 10-3 to take a 4038 lead in the eighth period.
Alexey Cheremisinov closed out the match, outscoring Erwan Le Pechoux 5-3 to secure Russia's sixth fencing medal of the Rio Games.
Meanwhile, the US fencing team won bronze Friday in men's foil, its first medal in the event in 84 years.
The Americans, led by topranked Alexander Massialas and Gerek Meinhardt, throttled Italy 45-31 for its third medal in fencing so far at the Rio Games.
Massialas and Meinhardt dominated the Italians with a three-match stretch in which they outscored their opponents 20-1.
Massialas and Daryl Homer won silver medals in their respective individual events.
