No one dictates the PN’s agenda, says Busuttil
Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil insisted yesterday that no one dictates what agenda is followed by the Nationalist Party, and as such “I will not allow the Labour Party to drive a wedge between me and [deputy leader] Mario de Marco”.
Speaking on the PN radio station yesterday morning, Dr Busuttil said that the PN is focused on “a problem named Joseph Muscat” and Malta’s most corrupt government in history.
Some people are trying to speak about division in the PN, he said, but this division does not exist. He added he was pleased to note Dr de Marco’s apology to those whom he might have hurt because of his involvement, on a professional level, in the ITS land saga. Dr de Marco chose the party before his professional interests and therefore any conflict of interest ceased to exist the moment his legal firm renounced the db Group brief.
Dr Busuttil said he was not afraid to take the ITS land issue before the Auditor-General, despite the party having received donations from the company involved. He said he also went one step further by appointing an independent inquiry to draw up proposals as to how the political system could be changed, including how political parties are financed.
He said that the PN will be proposing an alternative to public transport that will take passengers to their destination on time. “Today, public transport is not efficient and people are not using the service. We are working on an alternative system that will be efficient,” he said, which will be in the form of a light railway.
Dr Busuttil also spoke about the PN’s proposals on traffic, the environment, the economy and good governance, adding that the PN plans to reduce income tax for the first €50,000 profit for small businesses to 10 per cent.
