Eintracht Frankfurt captain Makoto Hasebe, the Bundesliga's most capped Japanese player, has been ruled out indefinitely with a knee injury that needs an operation on next week.
Frankfurt says the 33-yearold Hasebe was injured against Bayern Munich last weekend when he crashed against the post after clearing the ball. A scan on Thursday found the injury to be worse than initially thought.
Frankfurt says, "The decision that an operation is unavoidable was made by the sporting management and team doctor."
Hasebe has played in 236 Bundesliga games. He recently overtook Yasuhiko Okudera with 234 appearances.
