HSBC Catch the Drop supports SkolaSajf summer activity

-

For the fifth consecutive year, the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop was part of the annual summer school programme for children, SkolaSajf.

This year, in collaboration with Meusac, the HSBC Catch the Drop campaign played host to two SkolaSajf centres − once a week at the Fortress Building, Valletta and two at the Argotti Botanic Gardens, Floriana in collaboration with Argotti Botanic Gardens and Resource Centre of the University of Malta. The programme ran for five weeks.

During these sessions, students learnt about the quality of water and how it varies according to the source. Experiments demonstrated purity levels of three different types of water – tap, pond and reservoir.

The campaign also visited a number of centres and offered an art and music workshop. The art sessions were led by artist Luca Cauchi representing l’Association École d’art au village (Edaav). Meanwhile, the music workshops were conducted by Maria Abdilla and Roberta Magri and featured the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop songs, Water Life and Catch the Drop. These visits lasted for five weeks.

In Gozo, a two-hour programme was held at Manresa House in Munxar for all the participants of SkolaSajf. The Minis- ter for Gozo, Dr Justyne Caruana attended the HSBC-sponsored activities and stressed on educating the upcoming generation on the importance of saving and storing water as a vital national resource.

During these SkolaSajf visits, the campaign helped improve the problem-solving and teambuilding skills of young students by introducing a new workbook entitled Catch the Drop. The workbook is the result of a collaboration between students from Maria Regina Col- lege Mosta Secondary (Żokrija), artist Andrea Delicata and youth worker Anna Maria Grech.

All schools across Malta and Gozo have received copies of the workbook, which can also be downloaded for free from https://issuu.com/karusuflusu/docs /catch_the_drop_pdf

SkolaSajf is organised by the Foundation for Education Services (FES) and offers children across Malta and Gozo the opportunity to make the most of their summer holidays.
