Obiefule strike hands Vittoriosa first win

-

Vittoriosa S 1 Marsa 0

An Obiefule well taken goal eight minutes into the second half proved to be enough for Vittroiosa to gain their first win of the season and inflict the second consecutive defeat on Marsa. The game was at its best after Vittoriosa’s goal, after a rather dull first half.

The Stars deserved their victory with Suarez Leon in splendid form, with Marsa’s late reaction proving to be too little too late.

The first half simply failed to lift off with very few scoring chances.

Both sides tried their best but they simply failed the final pass in the last meters. Vittoriosa had a slight edge over their opponents, and were somewhat more effective upfront.

Their new foreign import Suarez Leon had some very good touches but failed to amalgamate with striker Obiefule, as Jojo Ogunuppe was left on the bench, with Duncan Pisani being the most dangerous in front of goal.

Marsa played mainly in defence but had some ventures forward and their build up was good. However strikers Charles Newuche and Dylan Pirotta failed to impress, with Joseph Farrugia in midfield arguably their best player.

Goodman had a good freekick well saved by Micallef in the opening stages and Duncan Pisani went very close on 38 minutes with his grounder missing the base of the upright by a whisker.

Eight minutes into the second half Vittoriosa broke the deadlock when from a Suarez Leon inch perfect cross from the left, Obinna Obiefule pounced on the prey to hit home from close range.

Three minutes later Suarez leon tested Micallef after a solo move.

On 72 minutes Vittoriosa went close again an Ethan Goodman freekick going over the bar.
