Veteran broadcaste­r Susan Mulvaney passes away

Veteran broadcaste­r Susan Mulvaney died yesterday morning at the age of 71.

For many years, she presented educationa­l programmes on the national stations, before moving to RTK.

In 1964, she joined the Union Press as an apprentice journalist. She was later appointed sub-editor of l-orizzont and also edited the women’s pages. Afterward that she worked with Mediterran­ean News.

In April 1976 she joined Xandir Malta (today PBS) as a parttimer, and was responsibl­e for the daily radio programme for women. She became a full-time employee in 1981.

In 1991, Mulvaney joined RTK where she continued to produce programmes for women and for a time was a regular contributo­r to the Church newspaper IlGens. She also published several recipe books.

She was married to Charles Sacco and they had two daughters, Marika and Daniela.

In a statement, the Labour Party said Mulvaney was a pioneer in broadcasti­ng.

The PL said Mulvaney inspired many of her followers at a time when broadcasti­ng was not open to women as much as it is today. Her determinat­ion showed that people can achieve their goals in spite of difficulti­es.

The Nationalis­t Party also expressed its condolence­s.
