US Embassy supports Migrant Women Association Malta’s campaign against gender-based violence
The US Embassy has proudly announced that the Migrant Women Association Malta (MWAM) is the recipient of a grant in the amount of $25,000 awarded by the US government’s Julia Taft Refugee Fund. The grant funds a programme to address gender-based violence in the migrant community in Malta. MWAM’s project aims to increase access to and availability of services for female asylum seekers and to strengthen service providers’ response to those impacted by gender-based violence.
Ambassador G. Kathleen Hill welcomed members of MWAM to the US Embassy to sign the grant. She reiterated the US Embassy’s commitment to advance human rights, including the rights of women and migrants, and to address genderbased violence. Ambassador Hill said: “This award is timely since we shall soon commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the UNsponsored campaign, 16 days of activism against genderbased violence. I am proud that the US government’s Julia Taft Refugee Fund is supporting such important issues. I congratulate MWAM on this commendable initiative.”
