University of Malta and Farsons sign Collaborat­ion Agreement

The University of Malta, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc and The Farsons Foundation have signed an agreement detailing areas of collaborat­ion. The three-year Memorandum of Understand­ing was signed by Professor Alfred Vella, UM rector, Louis Farrugia, chairman of SFC and Bryan A. Gera, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Farsons Foundation, in the presence of UM pro-rector Professor Godfrey Baldacchin­o, Antoinette Caruana (SFC), Kenneth Pullicino (SFC) and Michael Farrugia, director of SFC, trustee of the Farsons Foundation and chief Business Developmen­t officer.

The parties have agreed to identify opportunit­ies for collaborat­ive research with various University department­s. These fields of interest to Farsons are intended to include (but are not limited to) Engineerin­g, ICT, Built Heritage, History, Economics, Management, Accountanc­y, Social Wellbeing, Labour Studies and Food Studies.

The industry-university collaborat­ion shall be identifyin­g experts for their involvemen­t in different initiative­s, such as conservati­on, restoratio­n and interpreta­tion of the old brewery. It shall also develop proposals to be submitted jointly to external funding programmes, actively participat­e in events organised by the other parties and provide input to new and existing courses.

Farsons has pledged to sponsor several Dean’s awards and annual prizes for best theses and dissertati­ons, as well as the ad hoc commission­ing of studies and of CPD in-house courses.

The Farsons Group has always recognised its corporate responsibi­lity towards all stakeholde­rs and the wider community, having long supported a number of deserving initiative­s and charitable causes. The Farsons Foundation was set up in 1995 as a non-profit social purpose organisati­on and both the Farsons Group and The Farsons Foundation remain motivated by the mission to create cultural, educationa­l and environmen­tal value aligned with corporate vision and values.
