Qormi Melita 2 0

Qormi’s irresistible march at the top of the standings continued yesterday with a rather easy 2-0 victory over lowly Melita. Qormi dictated matters for long stretches and were worthy winners even though Melita gave them a good run for their money.

The leaders were immediately dangerous and went close after only seven minutes play. On a corner by Juliel Salaroli, Lubos Adamec’s header went slightly high over the crossbar.

Melita managed to react and show some initiative on 23 minutes when they managed to trouble goalkeeper Azzopardi. A perfect pass by Luke Micallef found Jean Pierre Attard unmarked, but Qormi’s number one was alert and collected the ball in the nick of time.

Qormi were at it again on 26 minutes, when following a perfect pass by Yannick Yankam, Jose Lucas Gaetano Da Silva found himself face to face with Charnock, but his shot went slightly wide.

Qormi continued their assault and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring on 5 minutes into the second half, thanks to a beautiful effort from the edge of the box by Julien Salaroli who beat goalkeeper Charnock.

Qormi doubled their lead barely five minutes later. On a freekick, Michael Camilleri’s header left Charnock no chance.

Qormi thus remain unbeaten at the top of the standings. The only team to have taken points off them are Zebbug Rangers who managed to hold the leaders to a 1-1 earlier on in the season.
