Gaulitana Artistic Director at the Concorso Citta`di Bardolino
Colin Attard, artistic director of Gaulitana: A Festival of Music and musical director of the Gaulitanus Choir, was recently in Italy as an adjudicating board member at the 12th edition of the Concorso Nazionale Per Giovani Musicisti Citta` di Bardolino “Jan Langosz”. This was as a result of a collaboration between Gauli- tana and the Concorso. The Concorso´s artistic director, Mro Giuseppe Fricelli, has been a regular in Gaulitana for several years and through his collaboration several events were co-organized in Italy and Malta.
The Concorso, which ran between 9 and 13 May, was based at the Sala della Disciplina in Bardolino, on Lake Garda. Big numbers of Italian or Italy-based young musicians, whose ages range from very tender ones to the late twenties, participated in the several different categories in various musical instruments / ensembles. Every evening the day´s winners also featured in a concert when various special prizes were also awarded.
All the competition´s sessions and the concerts were open to the general public, which included tourists who happened to be in this prime touristic resort. Indeed, the Concorso was a real feast of music for all, also putting into the limelight some extraordinary emerging talent.
Mro Attard fellow adjudicating board members included renowned Italian flutist Enzo Caroli, Hungarian violinist Carla Mordan, Russian pianist Daria Aleshina, Italian pianists Marco Podesta` and Michele Chiusole, as well as culture councilor Renzo Bellardone. The board was chaired by Mro Fricelli.
