In Guardia military parade at Fort St Angelo

-

Visitors at Fort St Angelo will also have the opportunity to attend to the historical military parade of the In Guardia. The In Guardia parade will be held today, 3, 17 and 24 June. Another re-enactment will be held at this fort on Sunday, 21 October.

During the parade re-enactors from the Malta Tourism Authority dress in époque coloured costumes. While the Order of the Day is being read by the Commander of the Fort, the Religion flag, known as Gonfalon, is blessed by the chaplain of the Fort, followed by the inspection of the Grand bailiff. Then pikeman, musketeers and halbards show their military ability and pride while the band, made of bugles and drums, accompanies the different troops during their military exercises. Other attractions during the parade are the Armaiolo and the Colverino cannon. At the end of the parade, officers will give homage to St John the Baptist, patron saint of the Order of St John, to St Angelo and to the Gran bailiff.

Dominating the tip of Vittoriosa, Fort St Angelo has always been of great importance because of its strategic position. Because of its role in Maltese history and by standing tall at the centre of the most formidable and spectacularly fortified natural harbour of the world, Fort St Angelo promises a genuinely enticing and memorable experience.

The parade, which starts at 11am and takes around 50 minutes, will be held at the Parade Ground in the centre of Fort St Angelo.

Tickets, both for the fort and the parade, are available from the fort for €15 adults, €12 seniors and students and €7 children. After 11.30am admission to the fort will be as per normal price, €8 for adults, €5 for seniors and students and €3 for children.

Fort St Angelo opens from 9am until 6pm, last admission at 5.30pm. For more information visit www.heritagemalta.org
