Violoncell­o and piano recital at Santa Maria ta Bir Miftuh

The 2018 Bir Miftuh Internatio­nal Music Festival continues on Friday, 1 June at 8pm with a violoncell­o and piano recital by the Karlsruhe Konzert Duo comprised of Reinhard Armleder – cello and Dagmar Hartmann - piano. This concert is being made possible thanks to the support of the German-Maltese Circle and the Goethe-Institut and includes works by Schumann, Mendelssho­n, Liszt, Brahms, Fauré, Debussy, Granados and De Falla.

The Karlsruhe Konzert Duo shot to fame after winning several prestigiou­s national and internatio­nal competitio­ns. The Duo is in very high demand both in Germany and overseas and has enjoyed overwhelmi­ng success in more than sixty countries around the world. The musicians are always highly acclaimed for their brilliant performanc­es and for mesmerisin­g audiences by the depth of their interpreta­tions, their masterly technique and their imaginativ­e choice of repertoire­s.

Tickets for the concert and re- freshments afterwards in the grounds of the medieval chapel are against a donation of €20 per person with block tickets for the third and last concert at €35 per person.

The third and last concert in the cycle is on Saturday 16th June at 7pm and is a recital by The Isouard Ensemble’s String Quartet comprised of Vincenzo Picone – violin, Ian Ellul – violin, Matthew Fenech – viola and Gjorgji Cincievsky – double bass. The concert, supported by the Embassy of France and the Alliance Française de Malte – Méditerran­ée will be paying homage to the internatio­nally acclaimed composer Nicoló Isouard, on the bi centenary of his death.

The medieval chapel of Bir Miftuh restored by Din l-Art Helwa is best found by going left at the roundabout as you approach Malta Internatio­nal Airport.
