Delia to take legal action against Attorney General over publication of full Egrant inquiry
Opposition Leader Adrian Delia is to take legal action against the Attorney General after the latter’s refusal to give him a full copy of the report of the inquiry carried out by Magistrate Aaron Bugeja in Egrant, a company that was opened in Panama along with those of Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri.
Earlier this week, Delia filed a judicial protest against the AG for the same reason, giving him 24 hours to comply. Now that the 24 hours have elapsed, Delia will be filing a court case.
The AG’s decision not to give Delia a copy is leading to a political imbalance between the government and the Opposition, as Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has a copy and Delia does not.
The AG’s refusal is not justified and goes against transparency and the national interest, a Nationalist Party statement said.
Muscat has said that a redacted copy of the full inquiry will be made available in the coming days.
In reply, the Labour Party said that the Egrant inquiry should not be a subject of political partisanship. The only political disadvantage registered so far is the fact that the Prime Minister and his family were victims of a frame-up orchestrated by people who are still unknown.
Delia should not be taking it against the AG, but against those who should take responsibility following the publication of the inquiry conclusions.
