MRTL Summer Championship Finals

-

The first part of the local horse racing season comes to an end next Sunday evening with the finals of the Summer Championship.

This year this championship is being sponsored by the Marsa Race Track Limited (MRTL) Consortium that are very near to reaching an agreement with the Government to take over the running of the racetrack and give it a huge upgrade.

The total prize money that will be distributed during the 7 finals has all been sponsored and amounts to €10,320 which sees an increase of €1,320 on that handed out last year.

The Summer Championship is one of the most interesting championships of the year during which all participating horses can race up to a maximum of three times and are allotted points according to their order of finish. During this championship the horses keep their current category positions and the twelve horses in each category that have acquired the most points make it to the respective finals.

The championship commenced on 15th June and horses raced over 2140m and 2640m with the finals being raced over 2640m as last year they were raced over 2140m.

First final is at 7:00 pm but surely the most awaited final will be the Premier Category one and which is the last one of the day. This final has generated an unusual amount of interest when compared with other races and this is because it will be contested by some of the best horses that have been imported to Malta during the past year. Anticipation for what is being labelled as the best race of the year is running high and quite a crowd is expected to be at the racetrack on Sunday.

After each final trophies will be awarded to the first four finishers and these will be presented by representatives of the MRTL Consortium.
