Malta Open starts today

The 4th edition of the Malta Snooker Open will be held at the Peace Band Club in Naxxar between today and the 19th of January.

26 local players plus another 5 players from other countries will take part. All the top Maltese players will take part, amongst them are Tony Drago, Alex Borg, Brian Cini, Aaron Busuttil, Duncan Bezzina and Simon Zammit. Besides this top field we have famous foreign players taking part. James Cahill who is taking part for the second year running has just beaten World No1 Mark Selby only few weeks ago. Another famous player is ex-profession­al Jamie Curtis Barrett. The other players are Danny Connolly, Blain Hendrey (son of ex-World Snoker Champion Stephen Hendrey and Frenchman Gregory Kopec.

Matches will start as from today and will be played all day starting at 9.30am and finish at 9pm.

The Malta Open which is being sponsored by Attrans will have a record prize money of 4,000 Euros. Winner will get 1,500 while the runner up will pocket 800 Euro. The Semi-Finalists get 400 Euro each while the Quarter-Finalists take 180 Euro each. The prize money for the highest break is 180 Euro

Entrance for the public is free of charge.
