Malta Law Academy launches Quarterly Law Seminars series
The aim of the Chamber of Advocates is not only to strengthen the legal profession but to also offer more opportunities for more knowledge that ultimately leads to a better and more informed legal community. With this in mind, the Malta Law Academy Foundation, the educational arm of the Chamber of Advocates, has announced a new series of talks.
A new Quarterly Law Seminars series is being launched and coordinated by the MLA in collaboration with Dr David Fabri and Dr Tonio Borg, both Senior Lecturers with the Faculty of Law.
The first talk in this series, “Judicial Review of Administrative Action and article 469A – Time for Reform”, will be delivered by Dr Tonio Borg on Wednesday 6 February at 12pm at the Chamber of Advocates’ Conference Hall.
This event will effectively open a busy calendar of talks and conferences throughout the year.
In fact, on 15 March, which is World Consumers’ Rights Day, the Malta Law Academy will again hold the Annual Con- sumer Law Conference in collaboration with the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Malta. This year’s con- ference will benefit from the presence of the distinguished Professor Guido Alpa as key speaker. Since 1978, Professor Alpa has been Italy's foremost expert and writer on consumer rights and the development of consumer law and has authored over 50 leading books on consumer law and civil law subjects. The conference will also be addressed by Dr Omar Grech, Dr Theresienne Mifsud, Dr Annalies Muscat, Dr Antoine Grima, Dr Mariosa Cardona and Dr Mireille Caruana. It will be chaired by Dr Annalies Muscat.
The second talk in the Quar- terly Legal Seminars is scheduled for Wednesday 3 April and will be addressed by Dr Stefano Filletti on the theme “New Age instruments in Criminal Law: Proportionality and challenges". This lecture will cover specific criminal law instruments such as the European Arrest Warrant or the pan-European freezing and confiscation orders, and the balance with human rights and the principle of proportionality.
