Mr & Mrs Farrugia were highly disturbed to find out what was being taught to their 10year-old daughter at her school. It went totally against their own beliefs and was being

done without their permission or prior knowledge. They took the correct course of action to safeguard their daughter, asking that she be taken out of such lessons, and bravely going public to warn other parents of the issues that they themselves were facing.

The fact that, in just 48 hours, the TV programme Exodus – which covered the story – and short videos on social media had received 150,000 hits is testimony to the fact that many other parents agreed with Mr & Mrs Farrugia’s concerns and were worried about what is being taught to their own children as well, behind their backs, without their previous consultati­on or consent.

Instead of the state co-operating with these parents to ensure total conformity with the law and their consent, what followed was a ghastly attack on these brave parents in order to intimidate them into giving up their fight to protect their children.

State-controlled media was used to ridicule them and, yes, spread downright lies about the course of action that they had taken. Astonishin­gly, even a teachers’ union stepped in and reported them to the police. Obviously, the police found nothing wrong but the intimidati­ng tactics that these parents had to endure shows how right they were to stand up and fight by every means for their daughter and their rights.

One such article was written by Stephen Camilleri, an Education Officer who co-authored the workbook(s) in question and who is doing the rounds on state-controlled television to justify what these parents had to endure. His latest article in this newspaper is seriously worrying and merits rebuffing in order for some decency and
