Zebbug Rangers: Referee:
This was a game destined for a goalless draw. Both sets of players tried their best to create scoring opportunities but both defences stood out. In the very first attack of the match, Zebbug’s Joseph Farrugia was close to open the scoring with a shot from inside the box which was turned into a corner by Naxxar goalkeeper Omar Borg with difficulty. During the first twenty minutes there were long distance shots by Mead Mifsud and Edson Farias, both saved by Zebbug custodian Matthew Grech. On 35 minutes, a shot for Zebbug by Saturday Nanapere was well saved by Borg.
The first opportunity in the second half was for Naxxar’s Jurgen Debono, who however concluded wide with a shot from the edge of the box. On the other side, an attempt by Nanapere just after the hour missed target after being served by substitute Abeeb Williams. The match continued to be a balanced affair as neither side could create any big goalscoring opportunities. On 86 minutes an angled shot by Farias shot saved with ease by Grech, while deep into added time, a Gaetano Gesualdi goal for Zebbug was ruled out for offside.
