Reaching new heights

Work on the Marsa Junction Project has reached a crucial stage. Ahead of schedule, Infrastructure Malta has already completed half of the work and will be delivering the remaining five flyovers by the end of next June.

- Ian Borg

This is no mean feat, considering the magnitude of the project and our country’s track record when it comes to capital projects of larger dimensions. With the exception of the Kappara Junction Project, our country had become accustomed to long delays, cost overruns and projects marred by controversy. These are now things of the past: the Government is keeping its promises and delivering projects on time and within budget.

The Marsa Junction Project is already having a positive impact on the residents of the southern part of the island, with hundreds of thousands of commuters already making use of the newly-built flyover, and more is yet to come. This investment will immensely reduce commuting time to the benefit of the residents and the commercial community in the vicinity. The reduction in traffic congestion will also have a positive impact on air quality. It is for these reasons that I find it hard to understand the political immaturity of the Nationalist Party in trying to spread fake news about the project rather than accepting the fact that the Marsa Junction Project is unparalleled and will be a gamechanger in our holistic transport strategy.

Rather than coming up with constructive recommendations on how to improve the lives of our families, they spend their time trying to undermine the real benefits that this unprecedented investment will bring to the area. It is no coincidence that the Opposition turns to fake news and speculation: it is an easy way of making themselves heard and deviating attention from their massive internal problems which are seeing more and more party members fleeing or even switching allegiance to the Labour Movement.

This Government means business and is incessantly seeking new ways of improving the country’s road infrastructure. We are addressing all the bottlenecks caused by years of inaction during the administration of the Nationalist Party and it is for this reason that we have recently announced the building of a new flyover near the airport roundabout to improve the connection between Luqa and Kirkop.

It is for this reason that we are implementing one road project after another: we cannot rest on our laurels, we must continue working for our people. And whilst planning for the long term, we also need to address current challenges. While the Opposition is trying hard to bridge the gaps internally, we are reaching new heights: planning, launching and implementing new projects in record time to the benefit of the general public. This is the real deal.
