Institute of Accountants and ACCA hosting sixth joint conference

The Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) are gearing up for the sixth edition of the annual joint conference on Thursday 5 December at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana.

The MIA-ACCA Conference has grown into one of the calendar highlights for professionals in Malta, particularly for members of the two bodies. This year, the key themes to be discussed are:

• Anti-Money Laundering (AML) recommendations on the Moneyval result, exploring the shortcomings of the accounting profession, • International Financial Reporting

Standards (IFRS) in summary, • SME Growth in Malta looking at how small businesses scale up successfully, with a presentation of results of a survey conducted by ACCA and MIA,

• Emotional Intelligence and the importance of managing and developing emotions within a professional setting,

• Interactive Interpersonal Skills for professionals and their place in the contemporary work environment. MIA President Mr Fabio Axisa said that the strong relationship between the Institute and ACCA has opened new opportunities for the members of the two organisations. “The annual MIA-ACCA Joint Conference established itself as a point of reference for professionals in Malta,” explained Mr

Axisa. “This year we are pleased to present an informative and varied programme that will enrich participants with new insights on both technical and soft skills.”

This conference is a great opportunity for ACCA and MIA members to gather intelligence on the profession in both domestic and global markets whilst networking and learning from other finance professionals.”

The conference will run from 9am until 4.30pm, with registration taking place from 8.30am. The event qualifies members for a total of six hours of structured CPE and categorised as an activity relevant to the attainment of 4.5 hours Core and 1.5 hours Professional Competencies.

Participation fee is €110 for members of MIA or ACCA and €150 for nonmembers. Retired members and students benefit from a reduced rate of €75. Members of ACCA (who are not members of MIA) are kindly requested to email cpeevents@miamalta.org for details on the members’ rate.
