Din l-Art Ħelwa XV Architectural Heritage Awards competition
Din l-Art Ħelwa will be receiving applications for the XV Architectural awards competition until 30 October. Eligible projects include the restoration or conservation of buildings, the adaptation of buildings to new uses, building additions or alterations or new building projects in conservation areas. The projects can relate either to a single building, a complex of buildings or to a historic urban environment or townscape. The project will be judged on the quality of the work executed, its historic, cultural, educational and social relevance, the preliminary research conducted and the aesthetic and visual merit. The project may be on a scale ranging from small to large and should display a standard of work which would be outstanding in a Maltese context.
The awards are an initiative set up by Din l-Art Ħelwa to encourage architectural excellence in a Maltese context, the rehabilitation and reuse of old buildings and the recognition of the dedicated work of those active in the field of restoration. The programme is carried out each year with the support of the Kamra tal-Periti.
It is noted that restoration and rehabilitation projects to the benefit of heritage sites and their immediate environment have continued at an increased pace despite the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, this year’s Architectural Heritage awards competition, taking place during the 55th Anniversary of the foundation of Din l-Art Ħelwa, will bring added recognition to Malta’s rich architectural heritage and increased motivation to all those working to enhance such a legacy at this difficult time.
Submissions for the XV Din l-Art Ħelwa Architectural Heritage awards should be for projects completed in the last year up to 1 October and are to be sent to 133 Melita Street, Valletta. More information about the Award Application and Registration forms are available from the Kamra tal-Periti or from the Din l-Art Ħelwa office.
