Kun bħali pożittiva, U żomm ruħek attiva! B'ħekk ngħixu ferħanin, B'imħabba lejn xulxin!

Be positive like me,

And keep yourself active! So that we live happily, Whilst loving each other!

Maya, 9 years old

These are the caring words of Maya who participated in the Children’s COVID-19 Masks Challenge organised by Lifetime Malta with the aim to engender social responsibility at an early age. A total of 66 masks with motivational messages have been donated to under-privileged children through the Millennium Chapel as support during these difficult times.

“What surprised us was the degree of love and hard work that went into the masks’ creation while some of the messages literally took our breath away with their expressions of hope and compassion!” exclaimed Natalia Lupu, the founder of Lifetime Malta.

A special thank you goes to Maria McNamara (MEDE), Dermot Galea and Therese Ellul from FES who were extremely receptive to the Masks Challenge by proactively involving the children who attended Skolasajf to take part in the competition; and a gratitude to Father Hillary and Ivana from the Millennium Chapel for opening their doors to these heartwarming opportunities.

The children received some exciting prizes, thanks to the generosity of sponsors such as Malta Sailing Experiences, Scavenger, Logografix Express and some private sponsors, which reminded them of their act of kindness. However, perhaps the most satisfying outcome was participants receiving thank you messages from those who received their mask as a gift. In this competition every child was a winner!

And last but not least: “We were amazed by the responsiveness of our collaborators, who without hesitation and out of good will, made the Masks Challenge become a reality: SlickExperience in crafting our online tools and Deco Manufacturing Ltd in providing their outlets as collection points,” emphasised Lifetime Malta Team.

The challenge became special to all who were involved. Each of us can learn from the open hearts of children and the sincerity of their words. Finding ways to nurture this as they grow older will be the real challenge!
