Hospice Malta steps in to help families of COVID-19 victims
Hospice Malta is reaching out to support the families of all COVID-19 victims, through their bereavement services. The NGO has recognised the difficulties and pain of many families who have lost loved ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many unable to say their final goodbyes.
Hospice Malta CEO Kenneth Delia said that: “Throughout the years, Hospice has supported many patients suffering from end of life illnesses. Hospice also supports the relatives and families of these patients through bereavement support. We are extending the service to support the families whose loved ones passed away during this terrible pandemic.”
Care Services manager Anna Frendo explained: “The families of COVID19 victims experience the pain of not being with their loved ones prior to their passing away. The pain, helplessness, anxiety and frustration among other feelings may complicate the grieving process. Hospice Malta will be supporting these families by offering free of charge bereavement support.”
Bereavement support will be offered on a one-to-one basis and delivered either at Hospice Malta premises, the family’s home or via Zoom/Skype, depending very much on the situation, as well as the necessary restrictions in order to ensure the safety of both families and Hospice employees at all times.
The persons delivering the bereavement sessions are psychologists or social workers trained and experienced in bereavement support.
Families who would like to avail of this support may call Hospice on 2144 0085/6 or send an email to: info@hospicemalta.org from 8am to 4pm from Monday to Fridays. More information can also be found at www.hospicemalta.org or https://www.facebook.com/hospicemalta.org/
