A pleasure to watch, stylish and dynamic in this unified game philosophy the Malta Football Association - 1900 has embarked on in it's technical development objective, an important component in this recently launched strategy for the longterm future of our National Teams.

All this and more outlined by MaltaFA President Bjorn Vassallo in an interview carried out in Trnava ahead of Slovakia encounter on Saturday.

“The approach we are showing is very encouraging, our mental approach, personality and style of game, needless to say it’s only the beginning of a long journey.”

Vassallo also referred to the recently launched MaltaFA strategy, “The main purpose of this strategy is unity to work alongside all stakeholders with the ultimate aim to achieve and reach our goals.

“I was truly overwhelmed after the Russia match with the positive feedback, the way our Team shared possession, played direct football, also creating chances, all this was there to be noticed, against a footballing power like Russia”.

UNIFIED GAME PHILOSOPHY

“This is all part of my electoral manifest when 18 months ago I was elected President, the desire to change the system was clear.

“Fondazzjoni Inħobb il-Futbol, better coaching education and this unified game philosophy starting from the senior side going to the Grassroots level in this pathway, tied with further strengthen investment to build a stronger foundation, prioritising long-term development and the sustainability of Maltese football across all levels.

President Vassallo insisted, “In this process the Association cannot stay isolated, we are constantly working with authorities for an equal curriculum at grassroots level, this is not a commitment for myself, possibly these targets are reached after my term is over, but I’m resolute to leave this legacy for the benefit of the beautiful game in Malta in years to come.”

FUTURE PLANS

“This is a foresight that goes in sync with the Government’s plans of helping out sports federations, particularly those with a strategic plan and leading to positive results at international level.

“We as MaltaFA have been catalyst in bringing forward our plans to mainly improve results on the pitch, but also when it comes to good governance and all the reforms we have embarked on at club level to step up in all levels.

“Our aim is to secure more credibility as Association, overcome all the challenges ahead, always bearing in mind that Maltese football can benefit from all this.

“It’s a long term plan with a significant amount of work yet to be done, but I’m pretty confident and also bearing in mind all hurdles forged by this pandemic, that by 2024 and the closure of my first term as a President we would have enough foundation to achieve our targets in the years that follow,” MaltaFA President Bjorn Vassallo concluded.
