Learn how to make cocktails with one simple rummy game
ITS Lecturer creates an app to help educate his students and the general public on how to create a number of cocktails
On the anniversary of his Guinness World Record, ITS lecturer Richard Pons, launched an online game to help educate his students and the general public. He also shares some insight on his career and experiences in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Having worked as a lecturer with the Institute of Tourism Studies for around 30 years, and still doing it to this day, Pons says he enjoys sharing his experience with his students. It gives him great satisfaction that several of his past students are now themselves members of the lecturing staff at ITS, as well as others, who have gone on to have a successful career and make a name for themselves.
During the Covid-19 pandemic while the lectures were being held online, Pons decided to create a number of fun games such as crosswords, to help educate students about various beverages in a different way. This led towards the thought of creating a rummy card game, to provide the same concept, that of educating students in a fun and different way. Through discussing with COO-Academia, Prof. Glen Farrugia, it was agreed that the idea of the game would be developed into a mobile application so this may be easily accessible.
The mobile application was launched on the 18-year anniversary from when Pons was announced the Guinness World Record holder for creating 48 cocktails in one hour. The game is rummy style, where the player needs to form a drink recipe to win against his opponent. The recipes included in the game are made up of 48-internationally known recipes which can be accessed through the help button, for those who are not knowledgeable on how they may be created. The game is downloadable free of charge on Android devices with the name, Bevicurious Rummy or online at bevicurious.com.
Pons concluded by thanking the ITS management for all their support and assistance in creating this mobile application. He also encourages his students and everyone else to take up the challenge and play along so that everyone can become knowledgeable about cocktails and drinks while simply playing a game.
