Title contenders Sirens R Cauchi Enterprises gave themselves a morale booster for the league as they defeated Sliema Arkadia to win the Super Cup. Sliema on the other hand suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing to San Ġiljan in the knock-out final this week.
Sirens made the game an uphill battle for Sliema as they built a commanding 4-0 lead through goals by a brace from Kaia Agius, Martha Perici Ferrante and Denise Micallef. Sliema made a reaction in the second session. First, they reduced the margin to 4-2 and later Yara Bonett responded to Zea Cutajar Licari’s goal.
Dale Dowling’s team kept the advantage in the third session as they even widened the gap to 7-3 but Sliema kept on believing and reduced the deficit to 8-6 after goals by Lisa Fenech and Yara Bonett. Sirens controlled the game in the last session and Denise Micallef assured the win for her team as Sliema’s late goal wasn’t enough. After the game, captain Denise Micallef was presented with trophy by ASA President Joe Caruana Curran.
