The Sunday Times of Malta - Sunday Circle

The editor A WORD FROM

-

The heat is hitting hard but social life on the island shows no sign of slowing down, and the July edition of Sunday Circle amply reflects this. It’s been a packed season so far, whether you happen to be into cultural events, fashion or simply enjoying good conversation by the beach.

Speaking of fashion, we’ve had not one but two massive events recently. Starting with our very own Pink Fashion Show, which took place at the luscious Palazzo Parisio. I do hope that you enjoy all the photography and Iggy Fenech’s feature.

Of course, July is also synonymous with Malta Fashion Week and Awards. This year is particularly special, it being the 25th edition and the gala night that took place just last Monday certainly did justice to the celebrations. It’s wonderful seeing so many local designers taking their collections to the next level and I enjoyed the level of professionalisation that is now evident across the industry. The founder of MFW, as industry people affectionately refer to the fashion week events, certainly had a hand in this and this month we dedicate our cover story to him. Certainly looks like big things are on the horizon!

This month we also celebrate two outstanding Maltese female artists, Charlene Galea and Alexandra Aquilina. Both are breaking boundaries with their art, Charlene redefining the female body without the male gaze and Alexandra with a nuanced understanding of the local culture that many of us have such a complicated relationship with. Read all about them in this issue: Alexandra is currently exhibiting at MUŻA, so catch it if you can.

There are other topics, of course. Gen Z dominate many discussions nowadays, and we take a look at how they're shaping the online dating world. And Anna Marie Galea’s pen is sharp as ever, explaining why stalking your exes on social media is not cool. There’s more, from environmental pieces to education and shopping, and I hope you enjoy the read.

Catch you all next time!
