Tengo una relación de amor y odio con los campamentos. Cuando era niño, la idea de pasar la noche en medio de la nada me fascinaba. I have a love and hate relationship with camping. When I was a kid the idea of staying the night in the middle of nowhere fascinated me. Maybe I could see wild animals wander by, I could learn how to start a fire and cook my own food and even get to sleep under the stars lulled by the sounds of crickets.

As I grew up, I realized that there were other things I had to take into consideration and found out that even the most romantic idea of living surrounded by nature was destroyed when having to deal with mosquitos, the lack of a bathroom, and a comfortable bed. I wasn’t as adventurous as I imagined.

So, I thought maybe there is a way to have it both ways. Have the outdoors experience but in a comfortable and even luxurious way. That’s how we discover the Treehouses Hotel at Acre; equal parts earthy and sophisticated, they are the ultimate hideaway: a private jungle oasis with the frills of a boutique hotel.

Every treehouse has a unique atmosphere. The walls are constructed from the branches of local trees, so no one has the same design. This causes the sun to creep through the openings giving mood-changing lighting as the day goes by. I found that it also helps to reset our circadian rhythm: there is no better way to feel refreshed in the morning than getting up with the first rays of sunlight.

There is something magical about starting the day with a power shower and the best way to elevate this is by having it in the middle of the jungle. The treehouses feature an outdoor shower nestled in a canopy of palms that offer complete privacy. After that you can choose your own adventure: eating breakfast and having a morning yoga class in the mango orchard, lounging in the pool, exploring the gardens, and even getting to know the menagerie of animals that live inside the property. A donkey aptly named Burrito is the star there.

At night, you really get the whole nature experience. The Baja California breeze works like a natural AC, as it weaves through the room’s walls and doubles as a white noise machine.
