THE EXTENSION OF MONACO

-

Today, the face of Monaco is changing dramatically. Most of the territory of the principality is undergoing construction – work is underway on the construction of premium luxury residences, such as, for example, the Giroflées Tower in the La Rousse area in northern Monaco, which will accommodate 73 luxury apartments, shops, a spa, a swimming pool and parking on its 22 floors. The construction of the new Princess Grace Hospital building has begun on the avenue Pasteur, with 400 hospital beds and 650 parking spaces. The Testimonio II project is beginning to take its final shape – a new quarter between boulevard d'Italie and avenue Princesse Grace, which includes several luxury residential complexes, parking spaces, landscape parks, and the new International School of Monaco.

However, the main construction project will increase the territory of the principality through the expansion of the coastline and the construction of the Portier Cove eco-district. By 2025, villas and luxury apartments, a shopping complex, a new part of the Grimaldi Forum, underground parking, a landscape park and a promenade with a marina will appear here.

In July 2018, work began on the creation of an underwater belt with the installation of 18 reinforced concrete caissons, the last of which was installed in mid-September 2019. The new coastline of the principality is now finally formed. The next stage began in mid-October 2019; draining the salt marshes inside this perimeter and filling them with quarry sand; this will require about 750 thousand tons of sand. This phase is expected to be completed in the spring of 2020. The first buildings should be built in 2022, and the entire area will be commissioned and released for exploitation in 2025.
