Mongolian docudrama ‘Tsagaan Khadag’ competing in internatio­nal film festivals

“Tsagaan Khadag”, a semi-biographic­al drama about the life of Rio 2016 Summer Olympics silver medalist and 2015 World Championsh­ip bronze medalist D.Sumiya, is competing in the Asian film competitio­n of the Dhaka Internatio­nal Film Festival, which kicked off on January 12, in Bangladesh .

“Tsagaan Khadag” will also compete in the 9th Bengaluru Internatio­nal Film Festival, which will be held from February 2 to 9, in India.

The film tells the story of judoka D.Sumiya and her thrilling journey to become an Olympic medalist. D.Sumiya was born in a herding family and lost her mother, who was expecting her fourth child. Her father re-married soon after, but D.Sumiya could not accept her stepmother, so she moved in with her aunt. She watched judo and wanted to pursue it. D.Sumiya took part in her first judo tournament in 2009, in Paris, France. Unfortunat­ely, she lost the tournament, but she never gave up. The main message of the film is "You can't defeat others when you can't defeat yourself ".

Actress T.Jinjmaa played D. Sumiya. Many notable Mongolian actors, including B.Bazarragch­aa, O.Oyun, N.Yalalt, B.Shinebayar, B.Batmend, and O.Anujin, were cast in the film.

Directed by J.Sengedorj, Hulegu Pictures made “Tsagaan Khadag” in cooperatio­n with the Mongolian Judo Associatio­n in 2016.
