Anti-corruption forum held
A national anti-corruption forum commemorating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Independent Authority Against Corruption (IAAC) was held at the State Palace, on January 11, and the Speaker of Parliament, MPs, the heads of diplomatic missions in Ulaanbaatar, heads of state organizations, members of the public, and media attended the forum.
In making the forum’s opening remarks, Speaker M.Enkhbold underlined that Parliament approved the National Anti-Corruption Program (NACP) in October 2016, outlining the anti-corruption policies and objectives the state will be carrying out over the next six years.
The Speaker pointed out that everyone’s participation, efforts, and assistance will effectively impact the implementation the NACP, but that Parliament and the IAAC have the greatest responsibilities concerning the program.
He also noted that Parliament will focus on creating a legal and regulatory environment to improve judicial independence and transparency in prosecutor selection and appointment procedures, to stop unfair competition, and to increase the freedom of the press.
The forum’s attendees discussed state, civic, and media participation; the legal and regulatory environments; cooperation between the judiciary and law enforcement authorities; and the state's transparency and accountability to determine approaches to fighting corruption.
