PRESIDENT TS.ELBEGDORJ SPEAKS AT THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
President Ts.Elbegdorj participated in the interactive session “The Silk Road Effect” on January 19, part of the World Economic Forum being held in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland.
The session’s attendees discussed political efforts and infrastructural investments being undertaken for the modern Silk Road Project, a plan focused on economic growth and regional integration between Asia and Europe.
In his speech, President Elbegdorj underlined that increasing the use of green technology in the construction projects being implemented under the Silk Road Project is important, and cited that trains traveling through Asia should run on renewable energy.
President Ts.Elbegdorj emphasized that he held a trilateral meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and China’s President Xi Jinping last year to sign an agreement to establish an economic corridor between Mongolia, Russia, and China.
He added that Mongolia ranks among one of the top countries with the most natural resources and consists of a vast territory, with a total area covering 1.5 million square kilometers between its big neighbors.
The President noted that one of the important topics outlined in the Ulaanbaatar Declaration issued following the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting Summit held in Mongolia was to boost cooperation between Asia and Europe through the Silk Road.
He pointed out that the Mongol Empire had a great impact on the development of the Silk Road and trade during the course of history, so Mongolia must be a part of the New Silk Road.
The President of Mongolia also attended a discussion on air pollution. The discussion’s attendees talked about protecting human health, developing agriculture, and reducing climate change by drafting a document to fight air pollution.
