STATE JIU-JITSU CHAMPIONSHIP CONCLUDES
The Mongolian Jiu-jitsu Federation has organized the State Jiu-jitsu Championship 2017 on January 21 and 22 at the Central Sports Palace.
The tournament was held in four categories; master, adults open weight, men’s and women’s.
President of the Mongolian Jiu-Jitsu Federation B.Myagmardorj opened the tournament and said, “Our jiu-jitsu wrestlers brought over 40 medals from World and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championships, Asian Beach Games and international tournaments. Over 300 Olympic and world championship medalist athletes will compete in this year’s tournament. Good luck to all.”
Top judokas, wrestlers and mixer martial artists, including Olympic gold and silver medalist N.Tuvshinbayar and Olympic bronze medalist Kh.Tsagaanbaatar competed in this year’s tournament.
The biggest surprises of this year’s tournament was the fact that actor of TV Cocktail Films A.Unurjargal competed in the men’s 69 kg event and won a bronze medal. After claiming a bronze medal, A.Unurjargal said, “I am very happy that I won a bronze medal. It has been a year since I started training in jiu-jitsu. I train four times a week. It is my first time competing in the State Jiu-Jitsu Championship. My weight is usually 70 kg. I lost one kg and competed in the men’s 69 kg. Every opponent I faced was tough.”
In the men’s 77 kg event, athlete of Garuda Club B.Tuvshin claimed a gold medal. He was followed by last year’s champion B.Sergelenbayar and S.Shijirbaatar.
In the men’s 94 kg, G.Altanbagana of MUBIS BJJ Club won gold medal. This is his third gold medal from the State Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The men’s 94 kg silver medal went to Ts.Erkhembayar. Bronze medal was taken by J.Naranbaatar.
In the women’s 70 kg event, Genco Club’s B.Khulan seized gold medal. She faced M.Narangarav in the final. B.Khulan also won a gold medal in the State Judo Championship 2017. The bronze medal of the women’s 70 kg went to J.Ariuntuul.
The State Junior Jiu-Jitsu Championship also kicked off on January 22 at the Central Cultural Palace.
Olympic bronze medalist Kh.Tsagaanbaatar’s son Ts.Khovor-Erdene competed in this year’s championship. He lost to B.Sededragchaa. Ts.Khovor-Erdene and Kh.Tsagaanbaatar were both seen in tears after the defeat. This year’s prize fund was set at 48,000 USD.
Winners will participate in the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in the United Arab Emirates from April 14 to 22.
