World Bank to implement a rural energy project

The World Bank will implement the Energy 2 project to provide reliable energy to rural residents, as reported by the Ministry of Energy.

Energy 2 aims at reducing distributi­on system losses and improving revenue collection through increased reliabilit­y and strengthen­ing the financial sustainabi­lity of Mongolia’s electricit­y distributi­on companies.

The project will be executed in cooperatio­n with the Baganuur Southeast Electricit­y Distributi­on Network, the National Electricit­y Distributi­on System, and West Regional Electricit­y System.

The project will also include the expansion and renovation of the Baganuur Southeast Electricit­y Distributi­on Network, which provides electricit­y to Baganuur, Zamiin-Uud, Bor-Undur, Khentii Province, Dornogovi Province, Dundgovi Province, and Govisumber Province.

Expansion and renovation of the Erdenet-Bulgan Electricit­y Distributi­on Network will also take place. The company provides electricit­y to Erdenet, Bulgan Province, Arkhangai Province, the Uvurkhanga­i Province center, and Kharkhorin soum.

National Electricit­y Distributi­on System’s facilities in Baganuur and Khangai will be expanded, and a new 10Mw power state for the West Regional Electricit­y System will be built under Energy 2.
