-

President Ts.Elbegdorj met with the Mongolian national bandy/hockey team, which won a bronze medal at the 2017 Bandy World Championship, on February 3 and congratulated them on their achievement. This is the first time Mongolia won a medal in winter team sports from a world championship event.

Advisor to the President A.Ganbaatar, president of the Mongolian Ice Hockey Federation D.Davaasambuu, senior coach of the Mongolian bandy and ice hockey team A.Mergen, coach B.Otgonbayar and the national team athletes attended the meeting.

The Mongolian bandy team won a bronze medal this year after beating Japan 6:5.

During the meeting, President Ts.Elbegdorj said, “I wanted to congratulate you on your big achievement and decided to meet. I promise I will cooperate with you. Team sports must be developed in Mongolia, and everyone, especially the state, has to pay attention to this.”

“It was really wonderful to hear the good news that Mongolia brought home a bronze medal. I want to highlight one thing here. The Mongolian team competed against experienced countries in team sports, such as Canada and Japan. This is a very big success. I hope you will improve your technique, team unity and training in the future. Congratulations,” the President added.

President of the Mongolian Ice Hockey Federation D.Davaasambuu said, “I am focusing on developing ice hockey in Mongolia. Previously, the Mongolian ice hockey team won a bronze medal from the Ice Hockey Challenge Cup of Asia. This is the first time the team won a medal from the World Championship. The team will compete in the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan. They are preparing well.”

At the end of the meeting, athletes presented hockey jerseys and stick to the President.
