CABINET SUPPORTS CONSTRUCTI­ON OF A COPPER CONCENTRAT­OR PLANT IN UMNUGOVI PROVINCE

During their regular session on March 15, Cabinet discussed and supported the constructi­on of a copper concentrat­or plant in Khanbogd soum in Umnugovi Province.

Minister of Mining Ts.Dashdorj was given the responsibi­lity of exploring potential partners to invest in the project and to establish contracts. The government is to hold a minimum ten percent stake in the plant without investing in the project.

The plant is expected to be able to process one million tons of copper concentrat­e annually, and is being planned to be operationa­l by 2020. Experts and officials from the Mining Ministry have stated that building the concentrat­or at Khanbogd soum, next to Oyu Tolgoi, will cut costs for transporta­tion and other expenses.

Minister of Environmen­t and Tourism D.Oyunkhorol was delegated with researchin­g and choosing between the Orkhon Gobi, Kherlen Gobi, and the Ongi Gobi projects to supply water to the Oyu Tolgoi concentrat­or plant, a coal washing plant, a proposed power plant at Tavan Tolgoi, and the newly proposed concentrat­or.
