Minister of Roads and Transportation visits MIAT

-

Minister of Roads and Transportation D.Ganbat reviewed the operations of the aviation industry in a meeting with the Director of state-owned Mongolian Airlines (MIAT), T.Tamir.

The aviation industry is considered to be crucial in helping Mongolia access foreign markets, attracting foreign investors and tourists, and fostering economic development.

T.Tamir introduced the Minister to MIAT’s operations and their new standards, and also reported on the market conditions of the industry and the company's future plans. He highlighted that the company has been focusing on cutting costs and maximizing its revenue, while also working to add new direct flights to Busan and Bangkok.

As part of the company’s domestic reforms, 2017 is MIAT's "Year of the Service Standard”. T.Tamir said MIAT is focusing on increasing its revenue from non-transportation sources. Accordingly, routes to Australia and seven Southeast Asian countries will be added.

“The Ministry of Roads and Transportation will assist MIAT in rebounding from financial hardship, improving business operations, and working profitably. We have begun working on renewing aviation agreements in order to increase the flow of visitors and to focus on protecting the international transport market. Therefore, the work to increase the number of flights and routes must be focused on increasing economic benefits,” said Minister D.Ganbat.

The Minister urged MIAT’s 700 employees to all work creatively to make at least one change to the company, saying that it would be a big contribution to the development of the aviation industry.

The Minister commended the skill and competence of Mongolian airline industry workers during his visit to the catering and airplane maintenance service headquarters of MIAT. MIAT's airplane maintenance crew has an agreement with nine aviation companies to service and fix airplanes. The crew services around 30 planes a year, and the Minister said that his Ministry would work to expand the operations of the crew.
