Ulaanbaatar to become a green city
On March 21, Deputy Mayor in Charge of Green Development and Air Pollution J.Batbayasgalan and Managing Director for Central Asia and Russia of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Natalia Khanjenkova signed a memorandum of cooperation on implementing the EBRD’s Green Cities Framework in Ulaanbaatar.
Deputy Mayor J.Batbayasgalan said that Ulaanbaatar faces air pollution, soil contamination, and water scarcity, but under the Green Cities Framework, a number of projects will be implemented, such as how to treat wastewater, how to use treated water, and improving green infrastructure and solid waste disposal.
Khanjenkova pointed out that important environmental and green development projects will be implemented in Ulaanbaatar, and that preparations for solid waste disposal and a wastewater treatment projects have been completed.
