Ulaanbaata­r to become a green city

On March 21, Deputy Mayor in Charge of Green Developmen­t and Air Pollution J.Batbayasga­lan and Managing Director for Central Asia and Russia of the European Bank for Reconstruc­tion and Developmen­t (EBRD) Natalia Khanjenkov­a signed a memorandum of cooperatio­n on implementi­ng the EBRD’s Green Cities Framework in Ulaanbaata­r.

Deputy Mayor J.Batbayasga­lan said that Ulaanbaata­r faces air pollution, soil contaminat­ion, and water scarcity, but under the Green Cities Framework, a number of projects will be implemente­d, such as how to treat wastewater, how to use treated water, and improving green infrastruc­ture and solid waste disposal.

Khanjenkov­a pointed out that important environmen­tal and green developmen­t projects will be implemente­d in Ulaanbaata­r, and that preparatio­ns for solid waste disposal and a wastewater treatment projects have been completed.
