Skier B.Uyanga claims gold medal at Special Olympics 2017


Mongolian athlete B.Uyanga won a gold medal in the women’s cross country skiing 50m event of the Austria 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games, which commenced on March 15.

In the men’s cross country skiing 50m category, another Mongolian athlete, M.Gantumur, seized a bronze medal.

Two silver medals were won by B.Oyunbileg in the women’s snowshoein­g 100m race and S.Temuulen in the men’s snowshoein­g 25m race.

Mongolia is being represente­d by 14 athletes, aged between 15 and 21, at the tournament, which will conclude on March 25. Mongolian athletes are competing in the floor hockey, snowshoein­g and cross country skiing tournament­s.

Over 3,000 athletes from 107 countries are competing in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017.

Mongolia first participat­ed in the Special Olympics World Winter Games in 2013, which was held in Pyeongchan­g, South Korea.
